[suhb-kuhl-cher] n. separate social group: an identifiably separate social group within a larger culture, especially one regarded as existing outside mainstream society. In sociology, anthropology and cultural studies, a subculture is a group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong, for example, if a particular subculture is characterized by a systematic opposition to the dominant culture, it may be described as a counterculture.

Welcome to the Iron Subculture Podcast! Iron Subculture covers a mix of bodybuilding and powerlifting topics, as well as strongman training. Our guests will include strength coaches, contest prep gurus, athletes and researchers that can give us training and nutrition info that we can apply to bring us closer to reaching our gym goals.

My name is Steve Colescott, the host and producer of the show (also known of as the Guerrilla Journalist). I've worked as a writer in the fitness industry for almost twenty years, with over a hundred published articles to my name. I have also served as Publishing Editor of a popular magazine called Peak Training Journal and worked as a consultant to a handful of sports nutrition companies.

Twice a month, I will be providing you with a healthy dose of easily-applicable info to help you get stronger, build muscle and whittle away body fat. Before we have even launched the first episode, I have over sixty experts lined up and I'm extremely excited to pick their brains for the benefit of the lifting community. Some guests are well-known. Others have never written for or been interviewed in our industry, but they have some amazing info to share!

In addition to the guests, joining us each episode is popular industry expert Alan Aragon. Alan is a respected speaker, coach and writer, working with professional sports teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks. He publishes the Alan Aragon Research Review, and will be discussing a research study with us each episode. I’m really honored to have someone of his standing as a part of our team.

Call and leave me a message and tell me what you think of my most recent episode, the show in general, or guests and topics you would like to see in the future. Your clip may be played in the Listener Feedback segment of a future Iron Subculture podcast (but I reserve the option of editing the length of your message to fit). Tell me what you think. Your opinion matters.
